Parts selection is not quite complete, so I decided to powder coat what I have so far. Frame will be matte finish black and a selection of components will be sky white. For the front and back I chose Maxxis 24X2.5 tires which will wrap around 24X3 US Choppers rims (sky white with black spokes). Although the tires are 1/2 an inch thinner than the rim this combo should spread the tire out and give the effect of a low profile “sportbike” setup. The fork will be from Nirve (matte black legs & sky white clamps). I decided to use a Shimano 3 speed hub to keep things simple but I do plan to build a Nexus 8 speed rear wheel. Maybe with a wider rear rim along with a belt drive system later down the road as an upgrade. So that’s what I’ve come up with so far with components... i’m looking into parts that will go well with my colorway selection. The color scheme is pretty straight forward “simple as black and white” but I think that the ingredients added so far is making this formula a perfect example of another well known phrase... “Less is more”

I thought that a theme is in order for this build so I decided on the 8 ball as inspiration. Since one of my favorite sports is billiards I figured it would be cool to apply that in any way to the bike. I did some google searches and I came across rather interesting things about the 8 ball, also I found this pic of a very unique one with stripes. I think this picture will be my point of reference. So i’ll start with a code name “Formula8”, now the search for a formula begins and I already have thoughts of powdercoating and 8 speed hubs... or did I mean 3.5 speed....

Pictured above is one of three that have arrived in our possession direct from Amsterdam for the first build blog from SF. In this blog you will take witness to the anatomy of a build from frame to complete bicycle.

At closer inspection you can appreciate the time, thought & dedication put into this iconic design. The welds are precise and the matte black finish is in true rat rod form. Before now we’ve only seen photos of it and to see it in person is incomparable, it’s simplicity is rather mesmerizing. With it’s smooth bends and flowing curves the frame seems like it’s moving at cruising speed even when stationary . Hands down this Dutch interpretation of the classic beach cruiser is an icon for riders in Europe and is creating a huge demand in the U.S.

In the future we plan to make this once in a lifetime design available to you and since SFCYCO has been lucky enough to demo, we want to share our build blog with you. So please stay tuned for updates on component installations and become witness some of the first Basman346 blog’s from frame to complete bicycles in NorCal. We plan to introduce our complete builds to the public @ Sea Otter Classic 2010.
